We have been continuously active as a General Contractor since 1897
and under the same management since 1972.

How does Scown get jobs done “On Time?”
We prepare a detailed construction schedule highlighting milestone
events. We review this schedule with our supplier and sub-contractors
to ensure that it is accurate and realistic. Our project managers,
in conjunction with the Scown management team, diligently follow the
schedule. Lastly, our extended history of general contracting has led
to solid and professional relationships with local zoning and building
department officials.
What kind of insurance does Scown carry?
We maintain comprehensive general liability insurance in the amount
of five million dollars, as well as statutory Workers Comp Insurance
and automotive insurance. All of our projects are covered with Builders
Risk Insurance. Further, all insurance carriers are “A” rated
or better by A. M. Best.
Can Scown provide bonds?
Yes, if required. Our bonding company is Great American Insurance Company.
Are you a union contractor?
Yes, all of our tradespeople are union employees and all sub-contractors
are union contractors.
Can Scown fix my toilet or change my light bulb?
Scown Building Company handles 2,000-plus maintenance calls annually
with our fully-equipped service vans. We are on-call 24 hours a day,
7 days a week, with calls ranging from $75.00 and upward.
What is ADA?
ADA stands for the Americans with Disabilities Act. Scown Building Company
has a trained team of employees that will bring your site into compliance
with this act.
